A traditional Chinese wedding tea ceremony

I absolutely loved being a part of Yin and Richard’s wedding. The celebrations started the day before with a traditional Chinese wedding tea ceremony at Yin’s parent’s house. Normally the tea ceremony will take place on the morning of the wedding but as Yin and Richard were having an early wedding ceremony the day after they decided to give themselves a bit more time to get ready and moved the tea ceremony to the day before the wedding.

In a Chinese wedding the tea ceremony is a lovely tradition and means the bride and groom show respect to their parents and families before they embark on their married life together. It was a real honour to be there and document the ceremony for Yin and Richard and I know how much it meant to her parents that the event took place. As a lovely bonus it also meant that I got to spend time with Yin’s family before the wedding day.

Manchester Town Hall wedding photography

The next day’s wedding ceremony was held at Manchester Town Hall. It’s no secret how much I love this building and I’m gutted that it’s now closed for refurbishment as there won’t be any weddings held there for the next seven years! The ceremony itself was lovely and there was a fair bit of emotion (mainly from Yin’s bridesmaids who couldn’t hold back the happy tears!). Everyone then all headed out to throw confetti and greet the newly weds with huge hugs!

The Peacock Room wedding reception

Yin and Richard’s wedding reception was held at The Peacock Room in Rochdale. Tucked away down a little lane just off the main road this is a lovely, intimate restaurant with fantastic food ( a perk of being a wedding photographer is all the wedding meals I get to eat!). It was the perfect spot for Yin and Richard’s relaxed wedding party.
